A modern take on the traditional baroque dance suite for chamber orchestra. Suite Moderne for Flute Choir is a transcription for Flute Choir of Suite Moderne for Strings. The original string version received its world premiere on February 1, 1987 by the Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, conducted by the composer.
The parts are designed to be played by choirs of 5 – 50 players. The basic scoring is Piccolo, 3 C Flutes, and Alto Flute, though all parts have optional divisi for performance by choirs larger than 5 members. The Gavotte movement of the Flute 3 part may optionally be played on Alto Flute.
