I was overwhelmed with the choices. Then the one i finally chose was not going to be available. They suggested another but a better model. Added the features i wanted and gave me a great price on it. I am over the moon over this flute! I am so glad they suggested this one. I might not have upgraded. It plays beautifully. And so easy to play. People i play with can’t get over how much better the tone is. Wish i would’ve bought this a long time ago.
The Flute Center sent me half a dozen flutes and head joints over a period of weeks and gave me plenty of time to really get to grips with them, The Muramatsu was my favorite although the decision was hard! A lovely flute to play with a depth of sound throughout the range. I was also very happy with their standard head joint and didn't need to spend extra money finding something else.
I have now been playing on my new flute for a couple of months and it just gets better and better!!
The warm woodsy tone and responsive mechanism of this instrument makes it a delight to play! The first performance I used it for was to play a gorgeous and fun solo in Church. I love the unique looks of my new "Darth" Piccolo! I highly recommend the Guo Grenaditte Piccolo.
I bought this flute to have on hand as a backup, but if I’m being honest, it’s now my #1 recommendation for beginning flutists. It’s lightweight, incredibly durable, and the headjoint allows for a clear tone even in the softest dynamic levels. It’s worth way more than the MSRP in my opinion, and compared to the other reputable brands that have been around for YEARS, this is my new favorite. I would recommend the DZ 100 without hesitation to any beginner flutist, or to the advanced player that wants a backup flute to have for travel/outdoor playing/while their main instrument is in the shop.
I bought this around my first year of community college and wow this flute is amazing! I am now on my third year and having this flute for a year now almost two, and this flute never let me down! I would definitely recommend this flute! 🥰❤️🪈
I've made adjustments due to age and small hands. This piece adjusts the angle and helps compensate for small hands. I find it very helpful. Wish I had done this years ago.
My flute teacher helped me select 4 pic's to try. Great to actually try them before purchasing. Because i plan to use it outside, ones with wood were ruled out. He helped me try them during my flute lesson and this one 'spoke' easiest.
I am still getting used to it, but am pleased so far. Thanks!!!
Really good sound. Delightful to play. Comes with plugs for key holes. Am slowly working towards being able to play without them, but works great with them in the meantime.
This is a backup flute for me. I was looking for a flute that could offer me something different. I took a chance by ordering a copper flute. The sound is quite different from my usual Sterling silver Yamaha 684, The sound of TJ is much more aggressive and forward and does take getting used to. I was surprised that it offers much less resistance and the a is sound very easily produced. So blowing gently is critical and controlling the sound takes takes some experience. Over blowing ruins any satisfying sound. There are pros and cons to this experience. For example, for my public playing I play mostly in a church band setting without a mic. This flute is perfect for this purpose in my situation. However, for a solo classical piece I think I still prefer my silver flute for more tone control. However, I just played a solo on the TJ copper flute ( A Debussy Arabesque arrangement for Flute and piano) and was surprised how well it was received by the public. So who knows if I'll use it more in the future for solos as well. For now I'm very satisfied and got exactly what I wanted. In short, it is a beautiful looking flute that is very easy to play and looks very well made and assembled. A great price, especially with the sale price that was the clincher for me to purchase this flute. Thank you for asking to review this flute. Hope it helps.
I had a wonderful experience trying flutes at Flute Center. I had a hard time deciding, but ultimately chose this one for it's eveness across the range and ability to take a lot of air. Beautiful sound and great mechanism.
I played a good open-hole flute for 25 years, but I got to the point that I wanted a really high-quality upgrade. After searching and reviewing for some time, I finally settled on the Yamaha 462. What I got was a fantastic upgrade, as follows:
1. This new Yamaha flute is easier to play and performs so much better on both the top and bottom ends than my previous. Whereas I had to work really hard for high and low notes before, they are so much easier with this new flute.
2. The key action is noticeably better than my older flute. The keys have a very solid but smooth feel (like driving a sports car), and I can definitely move faster on this Yamaha than my old flute.
3. I find my air demands with this Yamaha are much improved. It is easier for me to play longer passages because the head joint (and the whole flute) is so much improved.
4. I don't know if the gold-plated lip plate improves my tone, but it makes me feel classy when I play. And that, in part, is worth something!
I knew Yamaha as a well-respected name in flutes - I just was surprised when the quality of this flute surpassed my expectations. Finally, I'd say it took me about 2 weeks with this instrument to feel comfortable and fully adjusted. Now, it feels like coming home when I put it to my lips. This was money well spent! Well done, Yamaha!
I needed a composite piccolo for summer events, now that I'm in a marching band that has a June and July performance. It plays well and has great tone in the high notes.
Thumbport works so well that I had to try Fingerport and sure enough I like it. Not as important as the Thumbport but together even better. The stability helps me focus on my embouchure and breathing. Also don’t have to detach, fits fine in my flute case.
Finally, I have found a way to remove all of the moisture in my headjoint after playing my flute. Using every other method available, there was always a small amount of moisture inside the very top of my flute. I did not like closing my flute in its case with this leftover moisture inside. Now with the “Roi Master Cleaner,” I can get every last amount of moisture. Now I have a dry flute at last!
As a professional soloist this flute caters to all my needs and does even more. I have this flute paired with a wonderful nagahara 10k head joint with plat riser, and it is a such a wonderful combo. The flute provides a dark tone and is delicate and even in all the registers. The head joint allows for a warmer and more powerful sound when I need it.
I’ve been playing for many years on a vintage Armstrong bass from the 70’s. It had a nice sweet tone, but not much volume. I had decided quite a few years ago that I wanted my own bass, took many opportunities to try out whatever was on display at festivals and convention, and always came back to the Yamaha- but it was not in my price range- but I didn’t want to settle for something else. Well I’ve been rewarded for my patience and am now the proud owner of this wonderful instrument that is worth every dime! I had a perfect opportunity to put it thru the paces at a flute orchestra rehearsal while I had it on trial, and knew without a doubt by the third piece of the rehearsal schedule that I was buying this flute! It gives a warm projected sound that responds well to vibrato and has a wide volume range. I am so glad I didn’t settle for a different instrument- believe me, it’s worth the price and it’s worth the wait to add this to your collection. Thank you Yamaha, and thank you Flute Center- I couldn’t be happier!❤️
I've made adjustments due to age and small hands. This piece aids stability and I find it very helpful.Wish I hadn't waited so long. It may have allowed me to remain a professional flute player.
I have played a variety of flutes in the past 70(!) years: Armstrong, Haynes, Yamaha, John Lund, etc. This Powell flute is the flute of my dreams. It was especially efficient to come to the NYC Flute Center, provide my price range, and work my way through a variety of flutes, plus choose a head joint. I could take as much time as I wanted, and I was given advice regarding the flutes throughout the process. This is the first flute where it's taken little adjustment time once I had it home. As a senior with arthritis, it turned out to be the perfect choice. I highly recommend the Flute Center. My only regret--that I didn't do this years ago!
I love the build of the piccolo and the way it feels! But it is awesome plays really well with no cracks, and it is super easy to play on the higher register regardless if your lips are tired.
The TJ Mopane Piccolo is a great instrument for all players! I use this Piccolo if I’m wanting a brighter sound. The player will find how easy it is to maintain stability in all registers. I highly recommend this instrument for anyone that is interested in exploring different woods and having options in their Piccolo arsenal. This piccolo comes with a classic black case cover with “fluffy” white lining and a beautiful cherry wood case with the signature TJ purple interior!
It sounds nice, transitions easily from lower registers to higher registers without easily losing pitch. Tone wise, it's easily on par with other piccolos I've played - not as sweet and pure in sound as some wooden ones, but far better for the outdoor playing I routinely participate in by far. It carries well, and I'm not worried about how the climate will affect it.
For some reason, a few of the highest notes do not come out clearly. I don't play piccolo consistently, so maybe it's me. However, when I trialed a few other piccolos, the highest notes came out more easily, if not as prettily or in tune. This is only a difficulty because the Bb, C and D are not working as expected (Db is fine), and it made Stars and stripes a bit more challenging than expected.
We had ordered a flute that ended up being out of stock, so they upgraded us to this Yamaha. It's a great instrument. And they took great care of us
This flute wand doesn’t really wick away as much moisture as a Valentino helix wand, but the unique quality about this product is that it should be used during extended play sessions.
This is great for removing excess moisture for extended play sessions, and it’s not the best at cleaning the flute before storage, as it leaves a good deal of moisture behind even after several passes and twists.
