Amanda Harberg’s flute music and piccolo music have rapidly become new standards in the repertoire, which is also true of her music for other woodwinds. When news began spreading of an alto flute piece in the works, what had originated as a joint commission from two flutists grew into a consortium of 48 eager co-commissioners. The evocative movement titles Journey into Night, Invocation, and Midnight Jam set the scene for Harberg’s magic.
