Description

Berlin 1928 by Eduardo Costa

The title refers to the place and year of the premiere of Kurt Weill’s Dreigroschenoper (Threepenny Opera). Berlín 1928 is inspired by Berlin cabaret and the German Expressionist style in its first section, while the slower part evokes the songs that made Weill famous. Commissioned by the Spanish Flute Association (AFE) in 2009, it was intended as a compulsory piece for the 1st Manuel Garijo Flute Competition for Professional Grade students.

With two distinct sections, the piece allows flutists to showcase their mastery of articulation, rhythmic precision, and expressiveness through a neotonal language and brilliant composition.
