Commissioned by The Barlow Endowment for Music Composition at Brigham Young University, The Sonata for Flute and Guitar, Op. 25 was written in 1988, shortly after his Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 23, though it was not published until 1993. Dedicated to Paula Robison (like the Sonata for Flute and Piano), the Sonata for Flute and Guitar uses the same harmonic language and sonority as the Flute and Piano Sonata.
