In this talk with FCNY's Caity Massoud, Nina Assimakopoulos shares the surprising reason she chose the flute as an instrument and how her relationship with the flute has evolved over the years. She also delves into the details on how grant writing has led to the funding of her adventurous projects, including climbing with her flute up the Mace in Sedona, AZ and submerging a flute underwater for the Hydrology Project.

Internationally acclaimed flutist and Altus Performing Artist Nina Assimakopoulos is an integrative performing artist credited with over 85 international and national world-premiere performances and commissions for flute. She has recorded five solo CDs, is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, and has performed with the Munich City Opera, Bavarian Radio Symphony Academy Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra, and Toledo Symphony Orchestra. She is flute professor at West Virginia University and studied with Peter Lloyd and Paul Meisen.
