Biography

The flute faculty of the Tianjin Juilliard School since 2019, Hungarian born flutists Gergely Ittzés is known for his versatility and creativity. Besides concertizing and teaching worldwide, Gergely has researched his instrument’s possibilities, created Flouble, a chart and software for flute double-stops, composed many hours of flute music widely utilizing the most advanced extended techniques. Published by Schott, his newest project, The Flute Expedition consist of 42 little pieces, thematically and systematically introducing new techniques and musical language.

His has written the comprehensive flute methodology book Flautology and in his doctorate dissertation, analyzed the harmonic background of the traditional solo flute repertoire in depth. He is also a productive arranger. His transcriptions embrace three centuries from Bach to Charlie Parker.

Gergely recorded more than 25 CDs, including his 7-piece CD series “The Great Book of Flute Sonatas”. In his twenties, he played in the jazz-rock group Talizmán, and often participates in free improvisational performances.

Gergely Ittzés has been playing Sankyo silver and golden flutes for more than 25 years.
