PROGRAM NOTES

I wrote Absolute Zero when I was a high school student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. My eleventh-grade chemistry teacher, Jeffery George, introduced me to the concept of absolute zero. This is the lowest point in thermodynamics, where the fundamental particles of nature (atoms) stop moving. Absolute zero, 0 degrees Kelvin, equates to -459.67 degrees Fahrenheit. The concept and the surroundings in the universe that make it possible were the influences of this work for alto flute. Absolute Zero was written for and is dedicated to Savannah Rose Ridley (flute). 

COMPOSER'S NOTE

In the fall of 2024, Absolute Zero was choreographed by a dancer. I found this to be extremely effective for the music. For this reason, I request for the work to be performed in collaboration with dancer(s) when feasible. A recording of Absolute Zero is available on YouTube. 

EDITOR'S NOTE 

With the exception of beam edits, the composer has not changed any of the music. therefore, the original 2017 edition is interchangeable with the 2024 edition.ff
