Chiaroscuro (Flute Alone)
Description
Chiaroscuro (Flute Alone) By Gary Schocker, Published By Falls House Press, 5' in duration. Written in 2017.
Chiaroscuro is a charming four-movement suite for solo flute. Schocker's title refers to a Renaissance painting technique using dramatic contrasts between lightness and dark. Each movement (I. Andante, II. Minuet, III. Sarabande, IV. Allegro picante) offers a unique reference and connection to old and new worlds, making the music fresh and fascinating as a whole. Any one of the movements may stand alone as a solo recital piece.
This gem of a piece is reminiscent of the CPE Bach Sonata for Flute Alone in A minor, written in a 21st Century musical vocabulary but without any extended techniques. An instant addition to the standard repertoire for solo flute.
This work made our list of Top-11 Flute Alone Works Written After 2000.
