Concerto for Flute and Orchestra (Flute and Piano)
Description
Concerto for Flute and Orchestra (Flute and Piano) By Krzysztof Penderecki, Published By Schott, Includes flute part and piano score.
Written for Jean-Pierre Rampal toward the end of his career, this 1992 work by Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki (1933- 2020) exemplifies the avant-garde style of the late 20th Century in a way that at least flirts with atonality, but in a much more approachable way than other works couched in “Modernism.” The opening has a curious and conversational quality, with short recurring motives passed off seamlessly between all the members of the chamber orchestra. The conversation crescendos, abruptly turning into a spooky, barren soundscape evocative of the aftermath of World War II - a modern, tragic aria that commiserates with other members of the orchestra.
This Piece made it onto our list of The 19 Best Flute Concertos Not by Mozart.
