Sonata, Op. 23 (Flute and Piano)
Description
Sonata, Op. 23 (Flute and Piano) by Lowell Liebermann (b. 1961), Published by Theodore Presser, Includes flute part and piano score. Duration: 13'30".
Liebermann's Sonata Op. 23 is one of the 20th Century's preeminent flute sonatas, a virtuoso work in the same category as Flute Sonatas by Prokofiev, Poulenc, Dutilleux, Hindemith, and Muczynski. The first movement, Lento con Rubato, is an expansive and pensive work with short-lived, violent outbursts - a moody tone poem with infinite color possibilities. The second movement is a virtuoso Prestissimo challenging enough for the most advanced conservatory flutists. This Sonata is an excellent competition piece and a favorite recital selection.
Denis Bouriakov, flute, and Naoko Ishibashi, piano, perform Liebermann Sonata, Op. 23.
