Summer is the perfect time to explore new music, strengthen your technique, and prepare for the season ahead, all at your own pace. Whether you're practicing on the beach or in the backyard, here are a few simple tips to stay inspired:
1. Set a Summer Goal
Choose one piece to master by the end of summer, something like Philippe Gaubert’s Nocturne et Allegro Scherzando or the Liebermann Concerto No. 2 for Flute and Orchestra. Find a piece that offers both lyrical beauty and technical challenge.
2. Mix It Up
Keep things fresh by rotating your practice with etudes and solos. Try top-sellers like The Langevin Method, Paul Edmund-Davies’ Daily Exercises, or the Rubank Advanced Method, great for building tone and control. We also rotate out our New Arrivals Sheet Music weekly to keep our inventory nice and fresh!
3. Keep It Light and Fun
Summer doesn’t have to be all serious; sight-read something new each week! Explore our Solo Flute Collection for a variety of fun picks.
4. Add in Auxiliary Instruments
We know summer can mean Stars & Stripes Forever on piccolo, but try out some other Piccolo Studies, Alto Solos, or Bass Pieces!
5. Stay Consistent
Even 15 minutes a day can go a long way. Create a practice routine you can stick to, even on vacation. You can even use a practice journal to log your progress!
