Here’s what happens when you move to a better flute:

• It feels easier to play. The right flute will feel responsive, with a smooth mechanism that’s ready for even the fastest passages. New instruments also tend to hold their adjustment better than older ones—so if it seems like your flute is always in the shop, it may be time to consider an upgrade.
• It sounds more beautiful. A quality flute allows you to create the colors and dynamics you’ve always wanted. The process of trying instruments helps you define your ideal sound, and the right flute will let you produce that sound with ease and consistency.
• It inspires you. Picking up a flute you truly love makes you want to practice more, not less. It really is that simple!

Think of it this way: you don’t need to be a professional driver to appreciate a luxury car. Why should flutists wait until they’re “professional” to find an instrument that adds joy to their life?

How to Explore Without Pressure

Upgrading doesn’t have to feel intimidating. Approach it as an adventure, not a test of ability.

• Try flutes in a no-judgment setting. We recommend our in-home trial, which allows you to test flutes in the space from the comfort of your own space. 
• Pay attention to how each flute makes you feel, not how “perfectly” you play. It takes time to adjust to a new flute, but there will be signs once you found the right one.
