A Full Circle Flute Center Experience
by Lauren Wuerth, Director of Services
Thirteen years ago, I made a life-changing decision to pursue the flute professionally and give it everything I had to give. With that decision came a need for a serious flute upgrade. I had heard about the Flute Center at the time, and was equally eager and nervous to go to find my new instrument. After all, this flute was supposed to help me fulfill my dreams! When it was time for my appointment, I brought my whole squad with me - my Mom, Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa. No pressure, of course!
I still remember walking into the Flute Center and feeling a sense of awe at the sheer number of flutes available. The team was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely passionate about their work. My parents became instant friends with Phil, and I couldn't help but feel that I had an even bigger support system in helping me choose my flute in addition to everyone I brought with me.
After trying out several flutes, I fell in love with a beautiful instrument that had a rich, warm tone and a comfortable feel in my hands. Thirteen years later, it's still the flute I perform on today. It has traveled with me across the world and back again, and has filled me with more music-making joy and passion than I could have ever dreamed of. Of course, there have been stressful moments as well, but through it all, this flute has remained a constant in my ever-changing life.
With this flute, I have been fortunate enough to play with incredible orchestras, to share the stage with some of the most experimental composers and musicians, and to teach dozens of students. It's been an honor to be able to pass on my knowledge and experience to the next generation of flutists.
Three and a half years ago, I was nearing the end of a five-year journey in Copenhagen. The Flute Center was expanding, and I knew I had to apply and find my way back to the place that had, in essence, helped me reach some of my dreams. Now, I am incredibly fortunate to be the Director of Client Services at Flute Center and to help many other flutists on a daily basis. It's my hope to give every person who comes to the Flute Center the same incredible experience that I had so many years ago. To this day, I still think about how I had no idea that the Flute Center would come back into my life and how meaningful that has been to me.
