Alyssa Mercedes Mena, Sales Manager

Alyssa Mercedes Mena
Sales Manager / Resident Flutist

A native of Miami, Florida, Cuban-American flutist Alyssa Mena grew up in a bilingual household with an innate passion for music. She began private lessons at the age of 8 on the piano and later began flute lessons at the age of 11. Alyssa graduated from a performing arts high school, New World School of the Arts (NWSA) in 2015, where she studied with Suzan DeGooyer. That same year, Alyssa received national recognition from the National YoungArts Foundation where she was selected as a YoungArts winner in Classical Flute.

In 2019, Alyssa graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the
University of Miami Frost School of Music, where she studied privately with Trudy Kane. While at Frost, Alyssa was a Stamps Distinguished Ensemble Scholar, flutist of the Stamps Woodwind Quintet, as part of a 4-year fellowship, that had actively performed outreach concerts and recitals throughout South Florida, as well as New York City, NY, Atlanta, GA, and Louisville, KY.
In addition to their outreach concerts, the quintet was also featured on 90.5 WUOL Classical Louisville in 2019. Most recently in 2021, Alyssa received her Master of Music at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where she studied flute privately with Jim Walker and studied composition privately with Veronika Krausas.

Alyssa’s love for chamber music has led her to primarily compose and arrange music for woodwinds and solo flute, as well as perform in chamber festivals such as Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival in New York City, and Orford Winds Workshop at Orford Academie Musique in Orford, Quebec. Alyssa’s appreciation for different genres has led her to enjoy collaborating with a diversity of musicians. Since her undergraduate degree, Alyssa has
collaborated with various jazz musicians. She has been featured in multiple recording projects such as Grammy-award winning jazz trumpeter John Daversa’s album “All Without Words” in 2021 as well as indie-drama film “July Rising” in 2019.

In addition to her passion for performance, Alyssa maintains an active private studio of flute and piano students. She often composes and arranges pieces for her students to play.
