Logistics Associate
Jonathan “JY” Yuan (he/him) is a performing artist and arts administrator from Los Angeles, currently located in the New York metropolitan area.
As a performer, JY is primarily a flutist with an avid interest in modern and contemporary music, particularly with electroacoustics. He has premiered numerous new compositions with the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble and Oberlin Sinfonietta and has attended contemporary festivals Nief-Norf Summer Festival and Ensemble Evolution. He has worked in masterclasses with artists including Denis Bouriakov, Mary Kay Fink, Marianne Gedigian, Jonathan Keeble, Jim Walker, and Anne Zentner. JY has also had the privilege of performing alongside Walker, Michael Morton, Ali Ryerson, Sheridan Stokes, and even rock artist Rick Springfield. JY is also a casual and amateur dancer, mostly in hip-hop, K-Pop, and street dance styles.
Off the stage, JY remains closely connected with the arts. Previously, he was the Treasurer of the Oberlin Flute Association, which sought to bring experiences and opportunities to the greater Cleveland area. He has also interned with the National Flute Association, and Flute Center, where he later became a seasonal employee, and is now a full-time Logistics Associate. You can sometimes find him taking apart a flute with a screwdriver for fun.
JY graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music under the direction of Dr. Alexa Still with a Bachelor’s in Flute Performance, and an Integrative Concentration in Arts Administration and Leadership. He currently plays on an Oston-Brannen silver flute and a silver Mancke headjoint with 18K riser, and a Brannen Brothers piccolo.
