I’ve been playing for many years on a vintage Armstrong bass from the 70’s. It had a nice sweet tone, but not much volume. I had decided quite a few years ago that I wanted my own bass, took many opportunities to try out whatever was on display at festivals and convention, and always came back to the Yamaha- but it was not in my price range- but I didn’t want to settle for something else. Well I’ve been rewarded for my patience and am now the proud owner of this wonderful instrument that is worth every dime! I had a perfect opportunity to put it thru the paces at a flute orchestra rehearsal while I had it on trial, and knew without a doubt by the third piece of the rehearsal schedule that I was buying this flute! It gives a warm projected sound that responds well to vibrato and has a wide volume range. I am so glad I didn’t settle for a different instrument- believe me, it’s worth the price and it’s worth the wait to add this to your collection. Thank you Yamaha, and thank you Flute Center- I couldn’t be happier!❤️
I bought my Yamaha bass flute at NFA, after having tried all other options ranging between $3K-$6K. The Yamaha bass was the only standout, even compared to a bass that offered open holes (made by a European maker). Great headjoint cut, and very comfortable ergonomics since the “U” shaped part isn’t too wide. The action is smooth and springy, the scale is even tempered and easy to work with. And not too heavy! Hard to beat the Yamaha, unless you look at others priced $12K and up.
Flute Center is always so sweet to deal with which keeps me coming back to buy another instrument every 12-18 months on average.
