Repair Technician
Flute Technician Lee Moore, originally from Australia, specialises in professional repairs of all Woodwinds including Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute, Piccolo, Oboe and Bassoon. His first passion, saxophone, began at an early age, then continued on through Primary and High School until auditioning for the Assoc. Diploma of Jazz performance course at the Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide, SA. After working and travelling in the UK and Europe for 2 years he returned to Australia and completed a Bachelor degree in Jazz performance (Tenor Saxophone) and decided to expand his horizons further and gain experience performing by travelling to the U.S where he completed a 6-month contract working for Royal Caribbean Cruise lines out of Miami and throughout East and West Caribbean. After meeting his future wife onboard he eventually landed in her hometown Santiago, Chile where he was immersed in South American culture, language and music. Through this experience he took the opportunity, once fluent in Spanish, to apprentice with well-known Chilean Woodwind repairman Manual Matta with the dream of one day taking these skills to NYC. After approximately 1 year of training he decided to take his young family and return to Melbourne Australia to continue training and developing his repair skills further. After securing a position at renown retail and repair workshop Ozwinds Melbourne, under the tutelage of of the owner and master Woodwind Technician Brian Ebert, Lee continued on the job training and expanded his knowledge and skill set to encompass Flute and clarinet initially and then later was selected to participate in an intensive 1 month training course with Yamaha Music at their Manufacturing facility in Toyooka, Japan where he also picked up piccolo, Oboe and Bassoon repair.
With the end goal of New York on his mind he decided to make the leap and move his family to Atlanta GA where his wife had family, and worked for a mobile repair business catering to the large school system (Middle and High School) for approximately 5 years. He also built a strong following of private woodwind clients (flute, clarinet and saxophone) working for professional and semi-professional musicians.
During this period in Atlanta Lee sought out private flute training with well-known master flute technician James Capatch (BSS) where he learned new concepts and techniques which greatly expanded his knowledge and understanding of hand-made flute repair.
Other pursuits include saxophone mouthpiece refacing and CNC machining and fabrication.
