Haynes Headjoint Cuts
P Cut
Named in honor of Piedmont Street, in the center of Boston, where Haynes workshop was located from 1953 to 2010 the Piedmont Cut is the quintessential Haynes headjoint - warm, rich and flexible - and is the default headjoint for all Haynes flutes.
N Cut
Named after the Nagog wetlands that surround the current Haynes workshop in Acton, Massachusetts, the Nagog Cut features a thicker riser, adding more resistance and color to the sound without sacrificing articulation.
S Cut
The headjoint cut is named after Stanhope Street, the home of the Haynes Brothers in the late 1890’s. This headjoint aims to bring all of the depth and brilliance associated with our P and N Cut headjoints to a wider audience.
A larger target, an easier response, putting fewer demands on the player while multiplying possibilities in color, projection, dynamics and articulation.
A welcoming resonance, an approachable sophistication, creating the opportunity for more and more people to enjoy the Haynes Sound.
